Excellence 2000 Science (E2K)

In collaboration with the Gifted Education Branch, MOE, Gongshang Primary School conducts an enrichment programme catering to our high-ability learners in Science.

This programme, known as the Excellence 2000 (E2K) Science Programme, has been run yearly since 2009 based on a curriculum from Israel for talented pupils. The instructional methodology and materials are designed to be relevant to the learners' lives, with a strong focus on process and thinking skills in Science. The aim of the programme is to stimulate curiosity in our pupils and develop their abilities to study phenomena and their possible causes.

The school programme coordinator, Mrs Loy-Chow Yoke Yeong, together with Mdm Widayu Kemat and Mrs Sabrina Neo are the current mentors. Over the years, our pupils have done us proud by clinching first place in a few national competitions. In 2012, our team, led by Mr Zulkifli, attained a Merit Award in the East Zone Science Symposium for their research titled the Colours of Ageing.

This year, the P4 and P5 E2K pupils will be putting their creativity to the test and showcased their prowess in design by participating in the Sony Creative Science Award "Creative Toys Competition". Pupils will work individually or in pairs to design and build a toy from scratch which demonstrates at least one scientific principle. They also need to demonstrate how their toy works to the other pupils in the programme and in the process, learnt a great deal about Science in a fun and interesting way. Shortlisted toys will be submitted to the Science Centre in May! All the best to our enthusiastic E2K Champions!
